Fazilka:Seventeen-year-old Arjun of Jalalabad in Fazilka district has been selected by the Sports Authority of India(SAI) to represent the country in the air rifle shooting to be held in Suhl, Germany, from April 28 to August 6. He will represent the country in the Junior World Cup in 10 metre air rifle event.
He has the distinction of representing the country in Junior category(below 18 year) despite playing in the above 18 category in India. Son of Commercial Inspector(Railways) Neeraj Babuta, Arjun won the gold at the Indore School National Games in 2015, setting a world record of 394 out of 400 points. He is the winner of the national shooting events in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Shuttler Pranaav Jerry Chopra has brought laurals to the city by winning the 80th Senior National Badminton Championships 2015-16 in Chandigarh today.Pranaav won the title in the doubles event along with partner Akshay Dawelkar by defeating the 2nd seed Alvin Francis and Tarun Kona.
In the mixed doubles, Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy won silver medal. They lost to Arun Vishnu and Aparna Balan in a hard fought match by 20-22 and 20-22.
This is the second time when Pranaav has become a national champion.
In the women doubles, Pradnya Gadre (Pranaav’s fiancee), along with Sikki Reddy, won gold medal to become the national champions.
Anupam Kumaria, general secretary of the Ludhiana Badminton Association said: “It was a happy moment for us as both Pranaav and his fiancee are now national champions. They got engaged in January 1, 2016, in Ludhiana. The shuttler duo are planning to get married in December.”
Pranaav started playing badminton at the age of seven and became an international player in 2007. He has won all national championships in all age categories such as under-13 under-16 and under-19.
Pranaav started the year 2016 on a winning note when he won silver medal in Syed Modi International Tournament. In this tournament, he defeated top players from Korea, Denmark and Malaysia. Pranaav was thankful to the Badminton Association of India for providing him services of a Malaysian coach.

Mandeep Kaur from village near Ludhiana in Punjab won a Gold Medal, in “World Junior Boxing tournament” held in Taiwan. The locals of the village watched her live beating her Irish opponent and were screaming with joy and dancing, as she wins the Gold Medal. Mandeep is only class-12th student, and already has many national and international titles, but “World Junior championship” is the biggest one yet.
Harpreet Kaur (Cousin of Mandeep Kaur) said “The final had got us all very excited”. Her coach was sending us videos of the bout constantly. When her hand was raised, it was a proud moment for us.” The boxer’s mother, Daljeet Kaur, couldn’t watch these videos because of pending chores, but her ears were glued to the news coming in from Taipei. “I knew my daughter would make it,” she said. “Mandeep called us later and said: ‘I have won.’ A grand welcome awaits her on return,” said Harpreet Kaur.
The president of her first training academy said, “We have a plenty of international titles, but a world championship is like an Olympic medal to us, The girl’s indomitable spirit took her to victory. She started boxing in 2008 and since 2011 is getting us medals regularly.” said academy president Balwant Singh.
Overall, it was fantastic tourney for Indian boxers as they pocketed 7 medals in all – 3 golds, 1 silver and 2 bronze.
Mandeep’s father is a farmer and was unable to pay for her gloves and other training equipments, which eventually led to the Sher-e-Punjab Sports Academy sponsoring her cause.
Daljit Kaur, Mandeep’s mother said to a leading newspaper that Mandeep never missed her practice sessions and started her training sessions from 4 am sharp in the morning everyday.

Harbhajan Kaur Dheer(Punjabi-Origin) became the first Asian woman to be elected as Mayor of Ealing Council in London, United Kingdom (UK) on 12 May 2015.
The 62-year-old, councilor of the Labour Party assumed the charge in London in which she was the Deputy Mayor before assuming the present position.
Her husband Councilor Ranjit Singh Dheer is a former Mayor of Ealing. She is a Punjabi by origin and migrated to Britain in 1975 for pursuing higher education.
She studied Social Sciences at Kingston University and obtained a degree in 1995.
She was a mental health professional and is a rights activist advocating for rights of children and elderly.
In the Nineties, she worked as a volunteer Home Visitor helping home bound women with learning English
Her husband held the post of Mayor of Ealing in 2001-2002.

Puneet Pal Singh remembers the time, when it was easy to find space for parking at a Gurdwara, in Perth (capital of Western Australia). Some years ago, it wasn’t busy place. But now, it’s very busy, especially on festival. You need volunteers to manage the traffic, parking is full and the gurdwara hall is fully packed.Over past 15 years, the number of Punjabis in Australia increased dramatically.
In 1985, there were only 264 Punjabi speakers migrated to Australia. The first wave of Indian settlers consisted of doctors, as Australia needed them desperately. In the 1980s and early 1990s; educated and well-spoken professional people joined the wave. Then, they were followed by IT professionals in the mid-1990s.
In the 2000s, students were welcomed because they brought in huge revenues. A lot of them came from Punjab to study.
There were a few allegations of racist attacks which were traced right back to the alleged victim, which caused anger against the Indian migrants,” says a security professional in Perth. There was an image issue too. Some would work for 18 hours, and thus appears at work dishevelled and without bath. Punjabi student sometimes plays loud music in trains and buses, causing disturbance for other passengers.
There are educational options available for quality education at well-known institutes, and IT professionals continue to stream in. Punjabi migration to this country has dropped then. But there’s still little growth, because of marriages.

2004 ‘ਚ ਇੱਕ ਬਠਿੰਡਾ ਦੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਰਾਜਿੰਦਰਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਭੋਲਾ ਨੇ ਚਾਰ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਕਲਮ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਗ (ਮਿੱਟੀ ਦਾ ਵਡਾ ਭਾਂਡਾ) ਦੇ ਸਹਾਰੇ ਕੰਮ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਿੱਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ 6 ਲੱਖ ਰੁਪਏ ਦੀ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਨੌਜਵਾਨ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਭੋਲਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਟੇਟ ਐਵਾਰਡ ਵੀ ਮਿਲੇਆ ਹੈ। ਭੋਲਾ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕੇ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਚ ਰਿਸ੍ਕ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਇਕਠੇ ਹੀ 6 ਏਕੜ ਚ ਗੁਲਾਬ ਦੀ ਖੇਤੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਇੱਕ ਕਿਲੋਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਗੁਲਾਬ ਆਇਲ ਦੀ ਕੀਮਤ ਮਾਰਕੀਟ ਚ 15 ਲੱਖ ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਹੈ। ਓੁਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੁਲਾਬ ਆਇਲ ਦੀ ਮੰਗ ਕਨੇਡਾ ਅਤੇ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਚ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਊਂਕਿ ਓਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਗੁਲਾਬ ਆਰਗੈਨਿਕ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।

“If you want to do something for society, you need hard work,” Darwin taxi driver, Tejinder Singh said.

To feed the needy, hungry and homeless in Darwin; a migrant Indian taxi driver has turned a racist cab fare experience into a monthly quest. Tejinder Singh and his three family members save $1 each a day so they can spend the last Sunday of every month handing out kilos of rice and chickpeas from a van.He is migrants from Punjab,India. He encounters racism from cab customers due to the black turban worn for his religion. Mr Singh launched his food van for the hungry in Darwin, to help the community to not be so afraid of his turban.

“Our religion says 10 per cent [of your income goes towards] the needy, poor, who need help, no matter if they follow your religion, I try to follow my religion.” he said.
Mr Singh had just finished cooks 30kg or more of food for his monthly Sunday rounds. He had been driving his cab the night before and had not slept before cooking up vats of chickpeas, rice and peas in his backyard.

“It’s amazing how he does it. He drives for 12 hours in the night and then five hours cooking around a gas stove. “Mr Singh sometimes spends several hours searching for people who might be hungry. The food mostly ends up in the stomachs of long grassers in Darwin’s northern suburbs, but Mr Singh said he does not discriminate.

“I want to help needy people. Anybody, no matter black, no matter white, no religion,” he said.

“If they are hungry, I will give them food.”

ਤਾਇਕਵਾਂਡੋ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਖਿਡਾਰਨ ਨੇ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੁਣ ਤੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਾਣ-ਸਨਮਾਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਸਿਲਸਿਲਾ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੈ। ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਸਾਲ 2014 ਦੌਰਾਨ ਜ਼ਿਲ੍ਹਾ ਪੱਧਰੀ ਤਾਈਕਵਾਂਡੋ ਖੇਡ ਮੁਕਾਬਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਥਾਨ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਸੇ ਸਾਲ ਹੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਰਾਜ ਪੱਧਰੀ ਤਾਇਕਵਾਂਡੋ ਖੇਡਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੁਸ਼ਵਿੰਦਰ ਕੌਰ ਨੇ ਗੋਲਡ ਮੈਡਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ।ਜਨਵਰੀ 2015 ਦੌਰਾਨ ਦੁਰਗ (ਛੱਤੀਸਗੜ੍ਹ) ਵਿਖੇ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ 60ਵੀਆਂ ਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਸਕੂਲ ਗੇਮਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਾਈਕਵਾਂਡੋ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਟੀਮ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਖੇਡਦਿਆਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਾਰ ਵਰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਗੋਲਡ ਮੈਡਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ।

ਅੱਜ ਪੰਜਾਬ ’ਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਆਨੰਦਪੁਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਧੂਮ ਧਾਮ ਨਾਲ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦਾ ਤਿੳੁਹਾਰ ਹੋਲਾ ਮਹੱਲਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਖੰਡ ਪਾਠ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਅਾਰੰਭ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ ਵਾਂਗ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਨਗਰ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸਜਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਮੂਲੀਅਤ ਕੀਤੀ। 4 ਤੋਂ 6 ਮਾਰਚ ਤੱਕ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਆਨੰਦਪੁਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਚੱਲਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੋਲਾ ਮਹੱਲਾ, ਅੱਜ ਪੂਰੀ ਸ਼ਾਨੋ ਸ਼ੌਕਤ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ। ਹੋਲੇ ਮਹੱਲੇ ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਹਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਤੜਕਸਾਰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸਰੋਵਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕੀਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀ ਦਰਜ ਕਰਵਾਈ। ਜਦਕਿ ਸਵੇਰੇ 10 ਵਜੇ, ਵੱਖ-ਵੱਖ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਵਿਖੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਖੰਡ ਪਾਠ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵੀ ਅਾਰੰਭ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਅੱਜ ਤੋਂ ਹੋਲਾ ਮਹੱਲਾ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, 6 ਮਾਰਚ ਨੂੰ ਅਖੰਡ ਪਾਠ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਭੋਗ ਪਾਏਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।

ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਤੋਂ ਪਹੰਚਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸੰਗਤ ਲਈ ਰਿਹਾਇਸ਼, ਗੱਠੜੀ ਘਰ ਅਤੇ ਜੋੜਾ ਘਰਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ 24 ਘੰਟੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਕੇ ਲੰਗਰ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ। ਇੱਥੇ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਦੱਸਣਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ 400 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸਭਾ ਸੁਸਾਇਟੀਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਤੇ ਲੰਗਰ ਲਗਾਏ ਗਏ ਹਨ। ਇਲਾਕੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਿਆਂ ’ਚ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਚੱਲ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਦੀਪ ਮਾਲਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਜਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਸਵਾਈਨ ਫਲੂ ਇਕ ਇਲਾਜਯੋਗ ਬੀਮਾਰੀ ਹੈ। ਮਰੀਜ਼ ਦੀ ਹਾਲਤ ਉਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਿਰ ਇਲਾਜ ਦੀ ਸਹੂਲਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ। ਡਾਕਟਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ‘ਚ ਹਲਕੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਇਨਫੈਕਸ਼ਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਬੇਵਜ੍ਹਾ ਘਬਰਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਕੋਈ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ। ਇਸ ਰੋਗ ਦੇ ਇਲਾਜ ਲਈ ਕਈ ਦਵਾਈਆਂ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਹਨ ਪਰ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਨ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ। ਬੇਸ਼ੱਕ ਅਜੇ ਸਵਾਈਨ ਫਲੂ ਲਈ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਵੈਕਸੀਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਮੌਸਮੀ ਨਜ਼ਲੇ-ਜ਼ੁਕਾਮ ਲਈ ਇਸਤੇਮਾਲ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਵੈਕਸੀਨ ਐੱਚ1 ਐੱਨ1 ਵੀ ਰੋਗਾਣੂ ‘ਤੇ ਪੂਰੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਅਸਰਦਾਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਸਰੀਰ ‘ਚ ਇਸ ਵੈਕਸੀਨ ਦਾ ਅਸਰ 1 ਸਾਲ ਤਕ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਹੜੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਵਾਈਨ ਫਲੂ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਖਤਰਾ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਵੈਕਸੀਨ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ। ਫਿਰ ਵੀ ਇਕ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਰਹੇ ਕਿ ਕਈ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ‘ਚ ਟੀਕਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ 2 ਹਫਤਿਆਂ ਤਕ ਸਰੀਰ ‘ਚ ਐਂਟੀਬਾਡੀਜ਼ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਖਦਸ਼ਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸਵਾਈਨ ਫਲੂ ਤੋਂ ਪੀੜਤ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾਤਰ ਮਾਮਲਿਆਂ ‘ਚ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਦਾਖਲ ਕਰਵਾਉਣਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਇਲਾਕਿਆਂ ‘ਚ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਦਵਾਈ ਮੈਡੀਕਲ ਸਟੋਰਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਵਿਕਰੀ ਲਈ ਮੁਹੱਈਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਰੋਗੀ ‘ਤੇ ਦਵਾਈ ਦਾ ਹਾਂ-ਪੱਖੀ ਅਸਰ ਹੋਣ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਘਰ ਲਿਜਾ ਕੇ ਵੀ ਇਲਾਜ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਵਾਈਨ ਫਲੂ ਤੋਂ ਪੀੜਤ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਦੇ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਕ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣਾ ਨੱਕ-ਮੂੰਹ ਢਕ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਪੀੜਤ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਕੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਕਮਰੇ ‘ਚ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਥੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ। ਰੋਗੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਵਰਤੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਗਰਮ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਫ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਖਰੇ ਰੱਖੇ ਜਾਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ। ਰੋਗੀ ਦੇ ਕਮਰੇ ‘ਚੋਂ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਬਦਲ ਲੈਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹੱਥ ਸਾਬਣ ਨਾਲ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਫ ਕਰਨੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ।
